Trademarks & Designs Portal

A trademark is an industrial property title acquired exclusively by filing with the INPI. The Institute provides its clients with the tools needed for their procedures and ensures the publication and dissemination of information.

The redesign goals for the Trademarks portal: enable digital management of titles accounting for evolving legal constraints, create a centralised repository of trademarks (with historical data recovery) and provide a scalable, adaptable microservices architecture. The portal gives clients a single interface to manage their titles, while the back-office brings together the examination of all procedures.

The major challenge was to create a title repository listing all trademarks in force and archiving each title's key events up to its expiry. Several challenges were met:

• Large volumes: a MongoDB database with an adaptable schema, offsetting the missing or heterogeneous data from historical recovery, supplemented by an Elasticsearch index for performance
• Multiple sources: aggregation of the public base API, historical files and in-progress files to reconstruct trademarks filed over several decades
• Traceability: each event (filing, opposition, registration, renewal, international extension) creates a version of the trademark, viewable and comparable in the back-office
